The Flu and The Covid-19

The flu kills about the same number of people as the coronavirus…mostly affecting elderly people ages 60 and up.
The World Health Organization estimates that 1 billion people worldwide get the flu every year.

Here’s the difference between the flu and coronavirus.
Coronavirus is highly more contagious than the flu. COVID-19 and the flu are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is caused by a new coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2, while influenza is caused by influenza A and B viruses. Vaccines are available for the flu, but as of this date, October 29 2020, there are no approved vaccines for Covid-19. There is a prediction that there will be another wave of “cases” (people who have the virus) coming this fall and winter. Hopefully, vaccines will be available before the new year.

The most troubling thing about this pandemic is there are those who continually defy the orders of wearing masks, the 6 foot distancing and frequent washing of hands, in spite of the daily announcements of patients dying from the virus.

Influenza (the flu) and COVID-19, the illness caused by the pandemic coronavirus, are both contagious respiratory illnesses, meaning they affect your lungs and breathing, and can be spread to others when the 6 foot spacing rule between each other is not observed and not wearing masks when in public places. Two simple things that you can do for preventing the spread of the disease.

So, it’s simple. Wear a mask. Forget your ego. The majority of people are wearing a mask. Basic face masks can be obtained at your favorite store and on the internet…and at some stores like Walmart, masks are handed out free to shoppers who are not wearing one before entering the store. Avoid groups of people and try to remember the 6 foot spacing rule. Wash your hands often and use hand sanitizers. Doing these easy 3 steps will be a great contribution on your part to keeping yourself free of the virus and helping to keep others near you, safe.
