Who is Afraid of a Scary Clown?

One definition of a clown is found in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “a grotesquely dressed comedy performer in a circus”. Grotesque could also be described as “scary”. If you have ever used “grotesque” to describe something or someone, you probably meant to say, “ugly”.

So, in this scenario, we can understand why children become disturbed and cry and have nightmares when they see an adult figure in real-life with a grotesquely painted up face mocking a clumsy buffoon.

Horror movies with clowns as the principle evil character seem to be the latest scary ingredient that will stir even adults to shudder with hair rising on the back of their necks.

In that list there was a documentary about John Wayne Gacy. These movies have at least a 2-3 star listing. The remaining movies on that list have a 1 star listing. Probably not worth watching if you’re dying to be scared to death.

No wonder we see clowns as horrifying with all the hideous and repulsive
images of them on the big screen and on the home tv screen.

Halloween is coming and will no doubt spawn new horror flicks and most likely will star a creepy clown or two.

Now, not all clowns are creepy. Take for instance the famous clown, Bozo. Bozo was famous back in 1958 with his own tv series called “The Adventures on Bozo the Clown”. Bozo was a good-hearted clown loved by all at a time when life was so simple. We need more clowns like Bozo.
